You could probably get good money for your old helmet from a retro fan on ebay somewhere
I'm not sure of the actual time frame, but being made of foam, plastic, fibreglass etc, all those things that lose there flex over time, that you're probably better off with the new one.

so does any body know where i can get a kit for a 78 sr carby.....thanks..greg grandad, I bought a kit for my '79 from Sirius (through eBay but they have a website too) in Canada. It is a kit that is for a stock set up. I needed the gaskets and the pilot for sure...a local bike shop has Mikuni main jets out of the yingyang so I can play around with tuning too.

My first helmet was a Bell Star racing full face from 1970. I say racing because it had a sticker inside saying it did not meet the rules for peripheral vision and was not for on-road use. Its heavy and uncomfortable, but I refuse to throw it out, even though I have bought a new lid. Mick

Man...that's one huge fuel tank. The range of your SR must be well beyond what your butt can take...

Should be able to make it to the rally & back on the one tank I'd recon ! Its a cool looking bike , especially for the money spent on it!That sort of what I like to do & use what I've got at hand.It always comes unstuck though as you run out of master cylinders, pipes, mufflers, tyres, brakes&brake hoses. It always blows out my $50 over my budjet buy another budjet ! cheers Dave.
