Grandad! Nice bike. I like the Harley muffler idea. I had one fitted to my SR. I breathed extra well...after I'd knocked the central baffle out of it. The one I fitted (after the original Harley one that was on it was rendered deceased) was off a 1985 Sportster. They're great for SRs...same diameter and all. But to make it fit into the existing chassis I had to extend the header pipe by 8 inches. (The same as the old header pipe which kicked the bucket at about the same time as the silencer.) Now, are you the bloke to whom I sent an alternator stator many years ago? I hope it's working well for you if you are! Coo-ee...

gday mistersmith! sorry to say im not the one that got the stator from you...altho it may have been the previouse owner....he lived out this way..so it may be the same bike...if so ,yes its doin well as for the harley pipe , i dont expect it to breathe all that well until i do as you sugest and knock out some breathing space..but i cant untill i pass blue slip..the best part was the price$45 including postage...thanks ebay!....it fitted realy easiley...small mods only....except for the brake pedal.. which is a very modified xs 850 job im rapidly aproching my $1000 budget..$700 spent......and i still need to rechrome my forks or find replacment staunchions..and a back tyre...and some tyding up....plus whatever i get done on during th blue slip...so th budget will probably will probably blow out a tad .................any hoo...my graphics for th tank and such are underway...luckely i hav a mate that is a gun sign wrighter...so it should look cool for a moderate price

No, Mick. I'm the bloke from Two Wheels. But there was a picture of me in Motorcycle Trader last month. Despite all the bike magazines, I like motorcycles! I like Yamahas especially. And I like SR500s most of all. Hey Grandad, I hope that is my alternator because the bloke that I got it off said it was unused since rewiring. That is, it had new coils in the stator and hadn't been used since they were wound. And I couldn't think of a better use for it than in your bike. Now, the last owner...was he a bloke about five feet six or eight who had a beard and was about 50? Coo-ee... Peter Smith

Bize! No, that wasn't me unfortunately. I was stuck in Quirindi filling up the ute and trailer with bike bits for Melbourne. There's lots...including a Murphy Junior sidecar from an SR500. The sidecar's for Russel, the President of the SR500 club in Oz. Grandad! There are many people in the Bathurst/Orange area with SRs tucked away in back sheds. There was one bloke in the 1990s who used to alter the frames to take the mono-shock from YZ125s. He had about ten of the bikes laying around. He also had a very nice wooden sidecar which he'd made himself. He used to have a wood-working shop at Lucknow. It could be worth looking around. Peter Smith
