Where can I find such a beast(I've got them on three of my bikes)but everyone is telling me (yammy & other bike shops) that they only did SR500s with the 44(I know they didn't ,but I'm not sure if it was a genuine yammy part or not?)I know I can go with the 520 chain & I can use XT gear . But I'd like to stick with the 530 chain if possible. Does anyone have a reasonable one that they would like to unload ! Or can I be pointed in the direction of acquiring one ,cheers Dave

Dave: Mark at Thumperstuff has those in steel, and maybe aluminum. The steel unit is part #1553S2 and is $40.00 US. He's a great guy to work with if you haven't talked with him and has a very complete website. www.thumperstuff.com.

kedo sells 44,42 and even 40 for the 530 chain, but is it possible for you to order from KEDO? I hope you can find one at thumperstuff

Is the 17 tooth front too much of a jump? Or do you already have it?

Thanks for that info guys! I thought about Thumperstuff just after I posted.I was hoping to find an Aussie supplier if possible(maybe Vanem has them).I've been playing with a 17 front /42 rear on one of the other bikes(now I'm saving for a bit of engine work) but at the moment its trying to finish my wire wheel conversion on my 82(I can rob Peter to pay Paul)but I've found in the past that will only prolong the inevitable. If I spend $50 on a rear sprocket that means I can use a brand new chain that I purchased 2 years ago & it becomes fairly simple ,so even if I ship from US its still worth doing! Cheers again for your help,Dave.

Dave,
Try some of the companies that do generic sprockets. I am pretty sure "Chain Gang" still sell chains and sprokets here in AUS, and there is another company that operates out of Victoria, who I can't recall the name of but I found them on the net, who do a wide range of aftermarket sprokets.

Only heard good things about Chain Gang, but i think chain gang have stopped making some sprockets - i think i read it in VMX? Supply was down as people were shipping in cheaper options not realising the Chain Gang price was well worth it
Give them a ring though, they may have surplus still to sell (and the article may have been wrong)

Thanks for that I'll do a search & call tomorrow (I've got to remember to do it in the morning to allow for the 3 hours time difference). What about Vanem? I've emailed them but I haven't heard back yet. Hey Col your about to get your title (will you be a goblin or an esteemed SR elder ?)It's almost as exciting as watching your SR odo going back to zero after 99999 so do 4 quick posts & try not to miss it! Cheers Dave.

Dave,
I found a PDF of the ESJOT Sprokets catalogue on my other computer, and it lists both a 40 and 42T rear 530 sprocket to suit the XT500. I was emailing a guy some where in VIC about sprockets listed in this catalogue but I can't find his address.

Be good if you come across it ! Vanem & Chain Gang haven't contacted me yet , so it may be that I'll have to go via US as I'm nearly at the needing it stage! Cheers for that anyway ,Col only 3 more posts(you must be getting excited?) Dave

I had dozen's of them machined up 8 years ago in sizes unavailable in both 520 and 530, even 18 tooth fronts in 520 [ non O ring chain for racing] but didn't get the "support" so couldn't order the numbers to justify the machining, Stew knew.

Stew ,Chain Gang didn't call me back so I'm assuming that they cant help me! I've got a contact at a wrecker who may be able to get me a s/hand 1 but I wont hold my breath. I know what will happen , as soon as I order from Thumpers ,they will just appear from everywhere .I've had to revise my budjet to 100 dollars. Its only 2 freakin teeth & I cant for the life of me work out why they didn't come with this as standard .Cripes I've even build myself a lifter to get my SRs off the deck whilst I've been trying to locate one of these sprockets! Cheers Dave.

Dave try JT Sprockets ( they only do a 42 tooth for SR's. Then try Hank in cairns (www.hertmotorcycles.com) he might have one.
