Was teh CX500 hondas attempt at a Moto Guzzi?? When Japanese try and be Italian, and Italians try and be Japanese, it just doesn't work.
As Starsky says in teh re-make "Be yourself, that's whats really cool"

I think I'd have to nominate the BMW K1. The late '80s and early '90s seemed to be a bad era for designing in general. So many products seemed to be going for the "modern" look, which of course meant that even if it did look great when first released, it looked dated as soon as the new fashion came in. I've even ridden one of these and that did nothing to improve my opinion of them.

Not to re-open old wounds, I was admiring an old work horse at the GP, and thought, "what old honda is that?" It had Queensland no. plates and about 160,000 km's on the clock. Then when I found the guy in a pack of about 40 bikes humming along at 130km/h, I had a new found respect for them. I was surprised when it was a CX500.

Rumour has it that there is a bloke here in Oz who bought a brand new CX500 and left it in the crate with zero k's on it, because" these things are so good they are gonna be a collectors item one day." Hope that day comes for him before the world runs out of oil and all vehicles become worth diddly squat. Mick

PS. A bloke I worked with had one from new. Although he swore it was the ducks guts, I did observe that he kept it for the shortest time of all his bikes. I seem to remember he couldn't trade in it for a Guzzi 850 Le Mans quick enough.

Ahhh......No argument here Curly,
I thought that picture didn't look right, the engine wasn't transpose "V" enough.
Apologies to all offended Honda fans, but I'm too young to remeber when Goldwings looked like bikes, and didn't tow trailers.
I did see a CX though....promise

I personally have quite a soft spot for the Goldwing. Something to do with cracking 90mph up the cemetery road in second gear, 2 up. For the time, that was awesome performance. Especially since the cemetery road was dirt, and the bike threw a nice big rooster tail for alll of first gear and most of second. Mick

I posted up a video yesterday called Tunnel of Love. NB the scene with the CX500 (-mind you, one thing about the scene, the responses of the two men to one another showed the difference I notice / experience sometimes between riders of bigger but humble bikes, and riders of 'exclusive' bikes)

Haven't bagged the CX500 for a while ,but I heard something funny today .I met a guy who bought one for $1000 & he's going to cafe` it & there is actually a forum too! I just thought to myself "there is actually guys that do these up and admit to it"I may have to put him right & sell him one of my SRs? There has also been two CX500s & spares for $1500 for the last 3 weeks in the Sunday Times so there can't be too many takers even for a bargain! Cheers Dave.

How about a Puch 250 from Austria. They were marketed in the U.S. by Sears, the department store. They were actually a well build, dependable bike. Too bad there's a wood pile behind it. It sort of hides the true horror of the lines. Photo from: www.motorbike-search-engine.co.uk/Vintage_Bikes.html

Here's a 1956 Allstate Puch from the other side. (From the same link above.) An uncle had one. One of the first motorcycles I ever sat on.
