damo, i've had one of these on my sr when i bought it,i dont think you would be pleased with the sound, a bit muffled.however i doubt whether you'd need to do anything with the carb other than a tweek on the airscrew.only a personal opinion but the bsa goldstar replica exhaust sounds !!!!! regards, andy

I agree Andy ,Motad exhausts are very good quality but there a bit on the quiet side . They do a great deal of R+D on there systems and personally I've never had to re jet the carbs on any of my previous bikes ,at a rough guess I must have used/fitted at least 6 systems ,mainly on fours & triples Err NO ,I don't work for motad but I'm a big fan of there products Cheers LURCH

Andy/ Lurch:
I've been thinking of ordering one of these too, if just to junk the weight of the "box" added to the original silencer, and the Mottad one fits the original header pipe, or so they say. A question for you both:
When you say the Mottad unit is a "bit muffled", how would you relate that to the sound of the original system, which I still have on? It's pretty anemic sounding as well! I don't want to break windows or anything, but a little more "authority" from the exhaust would be a treat. (Unless at my age, it's hearing loss?!!)
Another option is the VD unit from Germany, but it seems to be massively expensive..........?
Thanks,
Chris

hi chris,i dont think theres much between motad and stock,i wouldnt want you to be dissapointed, however forget expensive options it isnt necessary.the goldstar replica is around £70 ish, fits directly on the standard header pipe plus a bit of simple strap/bracket work to support it.there are plenty of other options too,try biebo [german site]they have options including a lovely looking megaphone style a bit like a norton commando.they all fit with a bit of minor tweeking here and there, just make sure the inside diameter is the same as the outside diameter of your header.i would be surprised if you didnt like the sound of the goldstar silencer, just a personal opinion sure!

Thanks Andy!
I tried "biebo" on Google without any success - do you have a ULR for them?
And the Goldstar replica........where/who is that from?
I was looking in my notes from a few years back (I bought my SR new in Canada in '78!) and I had the dealer rejet it based on a Yamaha Service Bulletin, so I could use "regular" grade gas/petrol. When the SR first came out, manual recommended premium LEADED fuel, which was just on the way out here in the colonies!
Starts and runs fine, so I'd just as soon not re-jet!!

Prices look more reasonable then the VD site?
Have you ordered from them before? OK?
Thanks for letting me "jump" onto your original question!!

hmmmm, since we're talkin about sound etc my stock exhaust is rather burly sounding, does this mean the insides are falling apart?......

Hi Damo and Andy et al!
Just got my order in from Dieter yesterday - everything intact and looks perfect. Only hitch was Cdn gov't's extraction of duties from one reluctant consumer. Pay for the troops in Afganistan don'tchaknow!
For anyone else, I can confirm Andy's earlier very positive comments about Dieter's response and service!
Can't speak to the sound until the muffler is installed, but as an ex-Norton Commando owner, I can say it has the "look"!!!
Thanks again for the advice!
