Hi, Just measured my spare... The header OD is about 45mm in about the centre of the pipe...at that point it's a double walled pipe... If you want the OD where the muffler clamps on its about 41.5mm. If you're interested in how its made at the factory see here...use the red Japanese arrowed links to watch the construction progress: www.yamaha-motor.jp/mc/lineup/sportsbike/sr400/cafe/srism/exhaust/index.htmlHope this helps... Thats good news, have just found out my old girl has an illegal exhaust and our police find that most annoying,so had better comply. All going well she will still sound ok,the bike will be out with about 25 old english machines next week so I will fly the flag fo the SR 500s. Thanks again for all your advice and help . Adam.

How do the police determine what's illegal or legal? Years ago...here in Ontario, if a cop could stick his night-stick up the exhaust...it was illegal. But if you had a Supertrapp with the cap on the end...that was impossible. I know, since I was flying down the Queen's highway and got nabbed once. The cop wanted to ticket me for illegal exhaust since I was so loud, but the Supertrapp foiled his plans. So instead I got a long lecture and a speeding ticket.

I've got my old White Bros. headpipe in front of me and the O.D. is exactly 1 3/4 inches. My universal Supertrapp fits over it perfectly. I just got a BSA style Vanem headpipe and it is stepped down in size where you connect the cone, I guess to fit the original "baseball bat" exhaust. It's O.D. is 1 5/8 inches. I had to make a spacer so the Supertrapp would fit on the new headpipe.

Chris, Andy, Damo,
Thanks so much for the informative discussion. I'm a new member and happen to be looking at exhausts as well. Chris, will you post a pic of the muffler you ordered from Dieter after it's installed? Also, I checked out the biebos ebay shop and they didn't have any exhausts listed, did you just contact them and tell them what you were looking for?
this forum is great, it makes me even more excited about my new bike! Thanks guys, -Jason

o.k jason,i've also took delivery of biebos silencer same as chris.hopefully it will be fitted in the next day or so, i will e-mail you a picture and comments soon.i'm currently running a b.s.a goldstar replica silencer which makes a sound you could only dream about!! however i really liked the look of dieters commando styled silencer[not straight thro' like the goldie] in total i payed 73 euros for it which i think is dead reasonable for what looks to be a well made item.trust me,biebo are good to deal with, good prices, quick delivery,no problems with quality at all.will be in touch. regards, andy

chris, jason and all, just fitted the new reverse megaphone silencer from biebo, straight fit no problems, looks great, sounds 'nice' got a nice beat but not as deep a sound as the goldie, similar but quieter.now the interesting bit, performance is not as good as the goldie which perhaps doesnt surprise me as the mega is baffled and the goldie straight thro',the biggest noticeable difference being top end.when i originally bought the bike it came with the seperate goldie to be possibly fitted at some stage.the silencer on the bike was a motad which to pardon the expression sounded like someone trying to fart thro 6 pairs of pants in a word i could only describe it as 'dire' needless to say it stayed on the bike for about 2 days.having now progressed to my 3rd silencer and become a bit more experienced,i can honestly say the goldie is by far the best in terms of performance and definitely sound, the reverse mega is best for looks and the motad might make a good baseball bat,but only might.if anybody wants any pics of the different silencers on the bike e-mail me cos i'm not to clever when it comes to posting them on the forum.hope the above clears the way forward for some of you. regards andy
