Hello from Japan.
Yes, I know. Te pressure is 04kg/cm2. But don't worry too much about it for the pressure is easily going down and this deffects so little to the handling.

Hey guys found this old thread, I'll try to revive it... I've got these things on my '80 SR, and I don't know what the heck to do with'em! From the above post, they should be pressured to 4kg/cm2?...per my translation, that's approx 55 PSI ?...Is that correct? Any other info/background on these Air thingy's would be appreciated. Thanks as always!

When air forks were the rage on dirt(I know I,m showing my age)we use to run them at about 18- 22 PSI.We also used to run light springs in them in case of seal failure.I have an air assist kit for sale on ebay now and the instuctions say run 10-20 PSI and DO NOT EXCEED 30PSI. Their emphasis. Air is a very progressive spring media. The pressure(spring rate ) goes up very quickly with the decrease in volume as the fork compresses so start with low pressure. As an aside, later on in dirtbike fork development they started coming with air valves so you could let air out instead of putting it in. The pressure buildup from use would change the carefully engineered spring rate so you would let air out after a moto or during a rest stop.Sounds like a lot of hot air to me.

Had a quick go at the conversion myself...Akira's 0.4 is about 5.6 PSI...sounds about right. My earlier MX bikes used to run at a max of 14PSI...as I recall. On the later ones they were only used to bleed the air pressure away from the fork after a ride. Those blue caps are the same as the ones I have on the black cafe racer...aftermarket items...maybe of US origin. Most pressure I have ever run in them was about 5PSI or so...you can probably make them out here...just... SR

so I'm assuming there is a schrader valve in the threaded extension?

I had air-forks on a Suzuki 1000. They took 11 p.s.i. and I used a bicycle pump to add air.

Yes all of these have schrader valves and can be pumped up using a bicycle pump or similar as has been stated. It doesn't take much to pump them up and the pressure bleeds down quickly as you try to get them both identical. I used an air pressure gauge that used to came in the tool kits of the YZs... Try putting in 5 PSI in the Yam forks and see what difference it makes...in my experience the SRs front end is fairly soft as standard so it will make a difference... SR

I may have posted this before but you can buy a little shock pump from any bicycle shop, they all have a gauge on them and they have small barrels so you can put in very small and accurate amounts to balance up the forks.

Some bikes with air-forks had a crossover connection...you added air in one side only, and both sides got air.
