Don't run air in forks at all, notice no new bike comes with air forks? or anti dive on the front? or those horrible fork braces that grip the seal area?, use Technoflex single rate springs that suit the XS650 79/80 model, weld up one of the two little rebound holes on the damper rod and fill with 15w to the stock spec, [suits hard riding 90kg rider] do not use progressive rate springs as the first rate is to soft for the amount of usable travel, these bikes do not need "gold valves" and the blue caps, as the ever wise stew said, are American aftermarket items, we all bought them back then, Oh, you should see his latest SR project if you like the black one, regards Carl.

Chew, Stew- Thanks for all the info...great stuff. I'll probably play with the different pressures and see how it goes...Worse comes to worse, I'll just remove the system. Carl- Thanks for that setup info. Currently I'm just wanting to see what I have (baseline) and what I can do with this setup before I start replacing the forks completely. Who knows, new springs may be the next incoming item if these don't work out. -What does sealing that hole on the damper rod accomplish?..less fluid flow of some sort? Just curious of the workings. - These blue caps are labled 'GOKI' and with the original schrader valve caps reading 'USA'. Glad to hear there's some others that have seen these. Thanks all!

The air just leaked out anyway, fork seals just aren't up to holding air pressure, the little hole is a rebound hole and what you are doing is slowing the return of oil by blocking one hole,in turn your dampening rates will resemble those of a incredibally expensive front end with clickers for everything, I have played with these front ends for 29years, thats why I don't have a life as such..... regards Carl.

I have the crossover. I also have a small gauge attached. (all by a previous owner) I commented on this forum last summer about how I was running 25psi, and many of the regulars warned me that I was going to blow a seal. I turns out that my gauge was just off. I was actually running 3-4 psi.
