Good question..anybody know who makes longer than standard shocks that bolt right onto an SR? Anyone that makes rear dampers for vintage MXer's would be a good place to look. Because of the weight, I would look for something to fit TT500's. The old 2 stroke MXer's are just to light. A good mfg should be able to build them with any damping or spring combo you like though.

Update: The project is finally in motion. Got myself a 1978 SR500 engine. I have everything I need for it but a coil and the CDI. Carburetor will be a 36mm semi-flatside CV carb. The frame is a XT500. I've got it stripped down and it is being sandblasted next week. The swingarm is currently being extended 1" by way of new rear axle plates with 20mm slots to work with a 1990 CR250R rear wheel. Front forks are Honda XR650R with a billet top clamp. I am still undecided about what I'll do about a front wheel. If I had an extra $900 laying around I'd get a new set of wide 19" rims made up, but I don't so I think I'll try to make a xs650 or sr500 spoke wheel work. Rear shocks will be selected after I finish the frame and lower the forks. Tank and fenders are still up in the air.

Fantastic looking wheels. I love the red anodizing on them. I have been considering getting a small anodizing setup for smaller parts like hubs and whatever. I could start anodizing some of the parts I sell too.

Honestly, I'm not to crazy about the black and red. The wheels on my last supermoto were the same color scheme. I might do something different with these later.

Got a set of KTM bend pro-taper 1 1/8" bars yesterday. They are the dark grey color, it's got me questioning my previous color scheme ideas.

The one that misses is the left rear where the SR kickstand is welded to the frame. I have sold a few to XT owners and haven't had one say there was a problem. I use one on my TT framed SR. The TT has the same mounts as the XT.

Looking 'business like' at the moment! Great! If I had time I'd love to build another dirt bike... SR

I'm having some issues sorting out the steering stem since I only got a bare frame to start with. I'd like to find the original xt or sr triple clamp that I can rob the stem from. Should the top bearing ride in a separate cup or is the race built into the frame? I ask because the aftermarket taper bearing kits use a 11mm tall bearing but there is only about 4 or 5mm for it to sit in.

Their frame isn't designed to carry those. But it works. Check roundness of races(seats?): the slim outer rings will be squeezed to oval if the race(seat?) is. Better then grind/turn rings to a smaller outer diameter and loctite them into the frame. Regards Sven edit: I'm not sure bout the meaning of "race". Is it the outer ring of the bearing or the place where this ring is located in the frame (seat?).
