HELP!!!

Post by malakiblunt on May 28, 2008 7:40:46 GMT -5
i just fired up the bike after reaplaceing the oil stem seals, and it started frist kick , but the engine is raceing on a closed throttle (it was doing that befor the rebuild) and it started blowing oil out past the gear box sprocket and its leaking oil from around the exahust /head gasket not sure exactly were.
clearly i havent fixed the preoblem??
Oh worked out what happend with the gear box , i didnt have a nut on the sprocket, so it just blew the inner part of the seal out takeing the sprocket with it. Is that whats suppoesd to hold it in?

Your crankcase vent must be plugged up. There's also a vent on top of rocker box that returns via a rubber pipe back to the oil tank . also could the return oil pipe be kinked or blocked ? Just a thought LURCH

well ive discoverd that one of the socket head scres on the head wasnt done up because screws 8 and 9 are different lengths! even though ther doing the same job , and i had them round the wrong way so the exhaust side one wasnt clamping ill cheak all the vents , i just put a new breather on the crank case (gear box) and the little head breather tube feeds back into the frame next to the oil return pipe, it was all pluged in.

The new breather might be clogged up. Try it without that and make sure you can blow air through it easily before putting it back on.

i put in 2 liters ive toped it up by about 30cc to make up for what it pissed out on the floor. its just on empty on the dip stick,
is the smoke and the revs climbing a symptom of wet sumping?

The smoke may be but not the revs. Sounds like a major leak somewhere, both oil and air getting in.
But, like SteveC mentioned, it sounds like a breather issue.

the breather is defintly clear.
thats what i figured that ther must be air getting in to , but how???
could it be the oil pump? if its not scavenging?

the breather is defintly clear. thats what i figured that thee must be air getting in to , but how??? could it be the oil pump? if its not scavenging? That's my thoughts on the oil return being blocked ,try undoing the sump plug & measuring the amount of oil that comes out. I get around 6-700cc from mine after its been run for 10 minutes or so . A vast amount more than this would indicate that the oil pump isn't scavenging You may also have another issue with the carb/fuel supply , motors usually increase there idle speed as the fuel supply runs out , check the fuel tap for a good flow, maybe the vacuum tap isnt working as it should ,try the prime position also theres a filter incorporated in the fuel tap you'll need to remove it from the tank (2 screws ) that maybe bunged up with rust after 30 odd years . Good luck LURCH

HELP!!!

i just emptied the sump i didnt messure it but i would geuss around 700cc i pored it back into the oil tank and it went from below E to above F.
i looked in the oil tank whilst it was running , it was makeing gluging noises and ther wasnt much oil spraying around.
i was wondering if the rev increase was unconected to the oil , but it is very pronouced smokeing and rev rise together.
the engine shows no signs of stopping as the revs go up, and it will still rev on the throtle, but i always switch it off becuase its freaking me out, i know if its classic wet sumping the oil should just burn off, but its the revs that worry me, and i dont want to end up seizing the engine form oil starvation.

On the gearbox seal issue,if the crankcase was pressurized wouldn't the seal behind the alternator flywheel also leak ? worth checking !! LURCH
