The gear box seal was just because id left the sprocket off, wich holds the inner part on. but ill cheak the fly wheel seal.
im now almost certain its the scavenge pump, not returning the oil to the tank, but i dont know why, weather its a blocakage or the pump its self is not working.

HELP!!!

My older SR does something similiar . It belches smoke (blue) on start & it doesn't idle particuarly well as I'm always resetting it & I recon its the valve stem seals are shot as the smoke clears eventually so I refrain from starting it inside the shed ! Once its been started its OK & it doesn't do it every time . It doesn't sound like its reving as hard as yours is but it does fluctuate between stalling & 2500rpm . So it could be some kind of diesling type thing with fuel ,air & oil coming into the equasion(I actually had a XL350 with shagged rings that reved out & I even pulled the plug & I couldn't stop it so I pulled in the clutch & dropped it into gear & stalled it as it was the only way) I don't know if this is any help ? Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave, i replaced the valve stem seals. no change but your sounds like wet sumping to, but as you say not as bad as mine! ive heard about tractors blowing them selves up wet sumping. and im wondering about my rings that so much oil is geting past them. but the bore was imaculate with no trace of a were ridge. obviosly that doenst mean the rings arnt shaged.
