Before I take my bare frame down for powder coating, I want to cut the frame to fit the XR tail section that I am getting from hotwings. I don't have the tail yet, so I can't measure.
Do any of you know how far back from the shock mount to cut?
Thanks!

It's really hard to say as there are a number of XR750 seats out there. Best thing that I can say is that when you get it, set it on the frame rails and find a point that looks good for mounting. BOTH in the 'glass and on the frame.

Yes a dry assembly of all parts you are intending on using is the way to go as you dont wont to be welding and cutting once the frame has been powder coated.

Cut an inch behind the seat mount holes.

I'd measure twice before hacking up my frame!

I don't know how you would go with this short cut frame for a road bike ( no fender etc might be a prob for rego like here in Aus if you have regs like ours and then the issue of rear lights etc etc that is if its a road bike) even though it is tempting to cut the frame quickly to get the seat on, i suggest to cut less rather than more to start with and think the whole build through first. Its harder to re - attach parts ( as mentioned above already ) than it is to cut parts off in seconds, I am not saying don't do it, just work out the build first, do all the mods, build the roller up and get it how you want, fit the tank and set the seat, check the position, if using a custom tank do seat and tank together rather than find you have a seat that fits but the tank and seat don't work together. You can weld on the tabs and brackets to fit the seat properly if needed. After the roller is how you want "then" pull it apart again and get it ready for the powder coaters. Also have a good look at all the parts you may want to have powder coated, it is a pain once you start a build and then find all these little parts that you should have just got coated with the frame. If your powder coater is like mine, do every thing in one hit as it is cheaper than two or three trips to get little bits and pieces done. Sven from Germany owns this trick track bike, its had plenty of mods as you can see.... Forks, wheels, swing arm, alloy Yam tank, etc etc etc not to mention a very nice custom offset manifold for his FCR from Vanem's Japan dept. Anyway I hope this seat fit up helps out with position and frame mod idea's.

Sven, Sweet rolling work table! I think I'll make one too! Hi! I have to admit it's neither my bike nor my worktable - both belong to my friend Uwe. I just posted the pic to give strick an impression where the seat could be located on the frame i.e. where to cut the rearframe. Regards Sven

Hey Sven, your not the same Sven you owns this track bike are you?? Hi Adrian(?) yes, it's me and that's my bike! Thank you for mentioning! If of common interest, I could start a new thread with some pix of it... ... but now back to topic: I agree, better wait for the seat and then cut the frame but to do it "blindly", just hoping it might fit. Who wants to weld a freshly painted frame? Regards Sven
