Wimpy:
Nice looking build up --wow! Are you warming up the engine at all?
The cases do look pretty nice with the logo scrubbed off. Maybe I will try that on my damaged case and see where I get. Nice work -- with you on the budget thing -- just keep thinking about what a new bike would cost -- Ok Ok maybe about half what the build would cost (unless its a Ducati 1098R) but you wouldn't have had all the fun ... and you wouldn't have an air-cooled thumper!
"our" rearsets are Peyton Place indeed. Yours seem to be fitting up nicely. I need to do a little bit of mod to fit them. The frame mounting point centre to centre distance on the brake side is OK but the exhaust hanger is interfering and not allowing the carrier bracket to rotate clockwise enough (viewed from the clutch side of the bike). A little bit of metal work on the bracket should fix that.
The shifter side c-to-c on the mounting bracket holes seems to be a bit short, maybe 5mm or so. Thinking about what to do.....hmmmm..

Thanks. On the engine, I am using the Wiseco 90mm 11-1 piston. Megacycle 25162 cam. R&D springs, bronze guides, port & polish. Also have the big flat slide pumper carbie. Up font I installed Mikes XS fork valves, and the taper roller bearings from Thumper Stuff. Strange that your rearsets are not fitting. Did you get them new or second hand? Maybe the pillion peg mount on the shifter side is bent? Wimpy: Nice looking build up --wow! Are you warming up the engine at all? The cases do look pretty nice with the logo scrubbed off. Sounds like a sweet engine setup. A couple questions if you have time:
(1) How much did you need to relieve the intake valve pocket for the 25162 cam? Thinking of going to this cam instead of my torquer...still not sure.
(2)Are you using any extra head gasket thickness for spacing? I have an 80thou copper gasket to take the compression down a tad, wondering if the 25162 would clear with this thicker head gasket.
thanks

I had to deepen intake valve pocket 1.5mm. I also increased the radius of the exhaust pocket .5mm, as it was a little too close for comfort.
I will be trying the fiber sandwich head gasket. Will have to see how it gets on with the 95 octane here.
Regardless of what head gasket you use, I would definitely clay the piston to see what the actual clearance is.
Cheers. Peter

I second that. I have a similar set-up. I needed to relieve the intake pocket by .065" when I initially clayed it in I was at .001" (or less!) the clay I used was squished down to a greasy film. megecycle suggests at least .050" but some racers go closer. I opened it up a little extra just for reliability's sake. You really will need a dial indicator and some clay to get the engine exactly right. I can PM you some info on this process if you need it. A thicker head gasket wouldn't hurt either.- unless the .5 extra CR is really necessary. It's looking great! I'm enjoying the thread.
