Ok, as promised here are some pics of my project (obsession.) I'll try to keep up with the progress. FYI this was a $350 USD craigslist find from Detroit, Michigan USA. Fully titled with matching numbers. I started in August by stripping the frame and trimming the excess tabs and brackets. I also had to get a stock rear section welded on because of the hack job that the previous owner did! Then a re-spray in classic black. -I had as SR frame chromed once but it was just too bling for my style. So I'm gonna keep it simple this time.

And here's where I was at about a week ago, since then I've been doing electrics so no visual change except I have rubber on the front rim now. List O' bits: BSA b25 tank lengthened and modified to fit the SR frame.(I'm gonna loose the badges and fly the Yammy flag!) Generic Japanese aftermarket seat (second hand and recovered) Avon tires, DID shouldered 18" rims (Seriously, did you see those tires in the before pics!?!?! I had to replace those baloons!) Dellorto PHM 38mm Magura levers Grimeca 4ls brake Tarozzi rearsets Ceriani triples Wiseco 90mm Megacycle 25162 Carillo rod The tank is still in the rough stages. Thats the spray can "mock up" that I did (actually I wanted it to be the final finish but I'm just not good enough at painting!)

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I think I'm gonna drop the Ceriani triples this week. They look the part but I think I want the wider stock triples. I have a Daytona top clamp to give it the racer look. right now, the electrics are driving me to drink...er, drink more. Anyway I'm using a the left hand swithces from a cb954 and an after market throttle on the right. needless to say this is making for a really fun job of hunting down the matching wires.

Mate, what ya mean did we see those balloons? One of the things I really dig about SR500's is that when you put the stock 4.00 18 and 3.50 19 on 'em, they look huge, well, like balloons really. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, eh? Mick

Yea, I guess your right. I do appreciate the balloon tires on Sunbeams, though -S7 or S8's I think. Those look pretty cool. I guess I just like the look of lower profile tires on a cafe racer.

Yeah I love the high profile of the standard size tyres too (No front fender emphasises it, but wet road bacame a nightmare without one, so back on it went). I gotta say though, the project is looking great mate. I can't wait to see more photos

Mate, fantastic! That is going to be one very, very good looking Caff.
Make sure you keep us posted on your progress. What's the story behind the muffler?

Cool muffler I don't think I need to go into any details of the resemblence of but I wish I had one that big & it was chromed like yours ! The electrics should work out OK just draw a pic of the wire colors& where they go & test as you go as most bike controls are basically the same but they do use different colors & plugs (usually 1wire per signal & a common) Dig your work ,Dave.

Dave and Marlon, The guy I got it from has another for sale. He may have more 'cuz I got mine from him about 3 or 4 years ago and he keeps listing new ones. the MCM company has been gone for ages, but there's a lot of their stuff floating around still. I've scrapped the original SR header as it was pretty short. I do have a white bros. or some other after market header (see first pic) That I want to wrap in fiber glass like Marlon did. I'll work on some more pics tonight. so you can see the new header/megga tip combo. Here's a link for the ebay sale of the tip. cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Racing-Megaphone-by-MCM-nos-ahrma-triumph-norton-bsa_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35619QQihZ001QQitemZ110186627907QQtcZphotoYou'll need to make a baffle (or not) but it has nothing inside. Pure megaphone. The end cap is removable with a cool clamping system. If you want more pics of it I'll get them at your request (the exhaust, not my...!) If the guy won't send out to you in Aus, I can arrange to forward it from my place to yours. Thanks for the encouragement on the wires....I finished last night. Nice to see the lights on - it feels like a HUGE step forward.

Hey guys, I'm back on my project! Since last year, I've gotten a new job and moved our home a few hundred miles. Now We're in Detroit, MI. That said; the bike is progressing nicely and should (in theory) be on the side stand in a week. I have spokes coming to lace up the hub, other than that I just need to scrape together the cash to buy some new shocks for the a55 end. Here are the pics of what's new...
