Yeah mate, replacement is on it's way.
Shame - I rode down to melbourne to go on a motorcycling holiday - I took it for a ride without a muffler but lasted two blocks up lygon street before a cop pulled me over.
"Where are you going?" "Going to get it fixed" "No you're not, you're going to go home, take it off, and then go to get it fixed." "Yes Mr Officer, sir, your majesty!"

I thought you bought a wrapped supertrapp from a shop in Sydney?
How did the ride go anyway? Chiropractors dream, or no dramas?

Hi Marlon, Perhaps the pipe can't hack the continuous use??? Strange, is it aluminium...looks a bit like it...? I have an aluminium megga on the black cafe racer... In my opinion it's always good to get a reasonably solid pipe especially when you're using the bike for long rides like that...as light as you can as well of course...we don't want to weigh the machine down...heh, heh... By solid I don't mean like cast iron, but something well made...the Staintune pipes are very nice. Perhaps you could look into a slightly 'silenced' Conti or similar? They will do them to order with a silencer welded down inside somewhere...non-removable though...and with a bracket to suit as well...as I think we discussed. You could then run it on the end of the standard header...looks really nice I reckon...but a bit quieter than mine perhaps Have a great ride back... SR

Thanks for the replys fellas!
Milkman, I did get the pipe from Deus in Sydney, but wrapped it myself. Installed it, it ran well, but it just couldn't 'Take the Heat'. The ride wasn't too bad actually. The only problem was every 15 minute stop took half an hour or more, because some Ninny wanted to talk about bikes with me. Odd, the cafe racer seems to be a bit of middle ground between sportsbike riders and harley riders. I did have a sharp pain in the small of my back, but otherwise I was okay. I feel top notch now, 3 days later!
Stew, I think you're right. I've taken it for long rides before, but that was always either in traffic, or a blat on the pacific highway where we do a half hour section of road, stop for a smoke, some more road, another smoke etc.
When I get back I'm going to have a hunt around for mufflers. I might wait until I have the cash to take the bike to cafe racer, and see what he recommends. In the meantime I'm going to take the supersound spacers out of the old, blown muffler and add them to the new pipe, which should help it breathe a little better.

Tough break mate!
A buggered muffler and then a run in with the law
Those spoilsports with blue lights seem to have NO sense of humour when it comes to bikes.....
I'm pretty keen on the look of the exhaust wrap: it looks cool and will hide a rusty engine pipe until I can afford a new system.
How did you find it? It looks like it might catch dirt and stuff?
Cheers

No, funnily enough it's fine with dirt, mud etc. Odd eh? Doesn't seem to stick and collect any grit and grime. Deus Ex Machina stuff, but it's pretty generic.

Hey Marlon
I wonder if the exhaust wrap contributed to the failure of the muffler. Maybe the extra heat passed down the pipe from haveing it wrapped is enough to make the difference, as an unwrapped pipe must shed a fair amount of heat from the head pipe which yours won't.

Yes it did, and lucky your bike is new enough not to have dropped the head of the exhaust valve with all that heat, DO NOT use header wrap for at least 4 inches out of the head guy's. regards, carl, caferacer. pleased to help.

Wow...that's bizarre. I don't understand the reason for wrapping the header...Don't you want to get rid of heat as quickly as possible?

The idea is to keep the gasses hot and flowing easier all the way out. In my case it was to stop it from burning myself.
Carl, next time If i use the wrap it's going to start after the bend in the header.

What about one of the ceramic type coatings that are supposed to be so good, something like Jethot. any body tried them? they are not that expensive and are supposed to last really well.
