Hi guys, check this out. Go to www.flattrack.com ,click on classifieds on the left hand bar, select dennis suters vintage classifieds, when the page opens scroll down and look at the nice low pipes this guy makes. he also does anice xt hi pipe as well. Good site to check into as well. Cheers Franky b.

What a great link. Drooling over the picture ads all day. I love the styling and I've been trying to define what makes an XT/TT/SR flattracker look like a flattracker. Can anyone help? I think this is what does it: Big FAT front wheel? Same diameter and width rim as rear wheel? Shortened front forks? Steeper fork angle? Is this just due to shortening the forks, or do they do something with the head stem or the triple clamps? Different handle bars? Love the way they do a seat/mudguard combo that stops at the rear loop on the frame.
If I score another cheap 500, I reckon I'll have a go at a flattracker. Except I'll put just enough road going gear like lights and mirrrors and stuff to get it registered. Hpe the missus isn't reading this. She seems to think two bikes is probably enough. Mick

Hi Mick, its common to reduce the rake back to 25.5 degrees, helps load up the front end, and makes getting the back out easier, but dont do this mod on a streetbike, as straight line stability is affected. You can run the forks up through the triple clamps to balance the package and quicken steering, but what youre looking for is a front end weight bias, and dropping the forks is the quickest way of doing it. Tyres and wheels are usually 19 inch front and back, but an 18 back and 19 front works fine. Fronts are usually narrower than rears, but as we dont seem to be able to get 19 by 3 inch fronts here in aus, weve tried an 18 inch rear on the front with good results, just makes the steering a little bit heavier. Im currently running a 21 by 3 inch front, as these tyres are easy to get here, and really speed the steering up. These tyres are dunlop k180 and are a specific dirttrack tyre. Wide bars, 32 to 34 inches, with about 5 inches of pullback give lots of leverage and good control, and the rear seat/fender and 2 gallon tank keep it all light and uncluttered. The whole package is purpose built, with no unnecessary bits, but ive only ever raced mine, so i guess a streettracker would be a little bit different in some areas. Hope this helps you some, cheers Franky b.

Hey Franky B. Is it possible to get these seat/mudguard combos here in Aus? I'm thinking they would be lots lighter than the stock seat fender setup? I'm thinking 18 inch front tyre same size and same rim width as rear, or would this be a bit much do you think? Mick

Cheers LURCH Hey Lurch- I know the exact site your talking about. It has video clips of the same right hand turn in the road, and a guy on a 400 comes around the bend with different supertraps and reversed megaphone pipes. I think the are Peyton Place, Official, or Wellington that has those vid-samples. I watched every one that they has posted, but I can't remember the link. I'll try to run into it again.
