Hi hopwheels... I use the White Bros. free-flowing headpipe with a universal Harley-Davidson Supertrapp silencer and it works very well. You have to have a mounting bracket welded in place on the silencer and mine is mounted to the rear footpeg tab.

G'day. Have you considered one of these Muzzy megaphones? They are starting to flog these in the bike mags over here...looks OK. I had a Muzzy system on my ZXR years ago...nice light system. Looks like it could be made to fit (?) and looks in keeping with the SR stylistically: www.muzzys.com/megaphones/SR

Hi,
Nice pipe, functional and nice looking as well. Nicely tucked away as well by the looks of it.
You'll need to sort out the jetting etc. once you fit it.
What carb are you using?
Unless you've done a lot of damage on the cam cover mating surfaces, then you can carefully clean only the damage up (...don't remove any other surrounding metal) and use extra sealant around those areas when you put it back. Hopefully that will stop any leaks. Try the grey Yama Bond or Three Bond as the gasket sealant.
For cam sprocket removal: Refit the top cover to the engine, leaving out the small cover from over the right end of the cam. Then once tightened up you can undo the cam bolt with a ratchet and socket...so long as the cam chain is still fitted that is.... My recollection is that it's a normal (right hand) thread.

Thanks Stew! Got it. Both the head and cylinder. What a [insert unsuitable language here]!!! Major carbon build up on the valves and on the top of the piston. The JE Pistons 540cc big bore kit, a Web Cam performance cam and springs, new gasket kit and new valves are already on their way. I'm thinking of running a 36mm Mikuni. And perhaps that Omar's exhaust. What say you guys? Gary Hopwheels

Hi.
Yep 36mm OK. I have Mikini 38's on two of mine. I am also fitting a CRS 38 Kei Hin to my new cafe racer. They are nice carbs!
JE pistons are good as well I have them in my Honda racer. I usually run Wiseco's in the SR's...probably more to do with ease of supply. I am running an 89mm in the new one...well it's actually still in the box...but it's getting there.
Just to clear something up for me...did you say you'd damaged the joint between the cam cover and the head or between the head and the barrel. The head and barrel joint would possibly need machining if that was the case.

Is the 1.75" dimension of the White Bros. headpipe the O.D. or the I.D.? Is this the optimal size for cylinder evacuation at high R.P.M.'s?
EDIT: After searching around I've found that the O.D. of the pipe is 44mm or 1.732". The I.D. is 41.5mm or 1.634". The wall thickness is 0.049" or 18 gauge.
It just-so-happens that you can purchase carbon steel tubing that is "drawn over mandrel" in these precise measurements! S.S. type 304 is also available!!
Hmmmm............guess what I'm gonna do!

It also just so happens that Harley pipes are the exact same size and thickness as the White Bros. headpipe. Lots of nice bends too.

You can pick up used ones here at the swap meets for a few bucks. Got one set for $10 and another for $25, with few minor dings and some surface rust. Just clean them up, cut to suit and weld in place. Ed
