Where do Australian SR owners get their sprockets? I've gone through three major Melbourne stores, two of them the major Yamaha shops, the other the best general supplier, and they can't get a (standard) rear sprocket for my bike! They have them listed with their suppliers, but after phone calls to suppliers they can not get them in. My chain really needs changing

I find is amusing that a Yamaha dealer in Melbourne can't get a STD rear sprocket for a SR. These days I get my chain, sprockets and general parts from a local guy who runs a bike repair buisness from his home in Farrell Flat, (a typical little 1 horse country town 19km away from Clare) with out any problems.
The last time I bought a chain and sprocket set in the Big Smoke, was in 2002 when I was in Sydney with the Navy, and I got them through Motorcycle Accessory Supermart, they actually had a complete 530 chain and sprocket kit on the shelf.

Try Chain Gang; Vanem, Deus...what size do you need? Try a gearing of 17 - 41/42...the standard SR will pull it with a modified exhaust etc. SR

i was looking for a 44 tooth, but in desperation (I'm about to break and re-link the old chain!) I've ordered a 42 tooth. I've bought a 16, but I'll get a 17 as well and experiment on the front. Stew, why did you mention the need for a modified exhaust etc? I have an after-market straight-through thing, as below:

i think Stew was reffering to the fact a stock SR with stock pipe and air box has trouble pulling the 44 at higher speeds, but with a modified exhaust (as you have) it should pull the 44 no problem

Yes, that's what I was referring to... SR

16/44 was standard and 17/44 is good stock, 17/42 lightly modded will still pull redline in top and 17/40 for modified engines, listen to Stew, he has done it all, and all sprockets are readily available, "Supersprox" are good aftermarket ones and you can even do a 520 conversion [using the XT/TT front sprocket spacer] as well. FYI-Stateside, you can't go wrong with Sprocket Specialist www.sprocketspecialists.com. Just ordered a set for the Beast. Lots of options to choose from, but the steel rear is no longer offered. Duno if they ship over seas.

In australia just go to any bike shop and ask them to contact A1 accessories in QLD for supersprox, chain gang, link wholesale in QLD for JT brand sprockets, your shop of choice seems to have a lack of aftermarket knowledge or just does'nt care. phone sumoto in melbourne and ask for andy, he knows what your after. regards Carl.
