Hi all,
I have been having some difficulty in attempting to adjust my clutch. I now have clip on bars, and therefore purchased a shorter clutch cable to suit. I also swapped the clutch lever assembly to another type with the decomp lever on the top, so it doesnt interfere with the forks. Now im trying to adjust the action of the lever, but cannot seem to get the clutch to engage. ie. when i have the bike running, with the clutch in, if I select a gear, it will simply stall, as though the clutch is not engaged.
Im fairly new to this, so im assuming that I have overlooked something simple. Ive tried endless adjustments to both the lever adjustment and cable adjustment. I also tried adjusting the adjustment screw on the side of the case, but its possible I have not done that correctly either.
The bike hasnt been ridden for some time also, as I have been reassembling it, but I run the engine almost every day.
Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Try putting your old cable back on and see if it works. If that works you will have to shorten the inside wire on the new cable so that it has the same exposure as the old cable. If that doesn't work ,try the old lever and perch. I am assuming(dangerous) that the clutch worked OK with the original controls and that the adjustment at the actuator is correct.

Did you have the clutch itself apart? It's not unusual for clutch plates to stick together when a bike sits for a while - even when you pull the lever in it doesn't disengage.
What I used to do (on a Triumph) was push start the bike, get going down the street at a moderate rpm, and then pull in the clutch lever and apply the rear brake while still holding some throttle - usually that would break it free.

In comparison of the cables, there seems to be a similar about of cable exposed at the ends, but i might swap it to test anyway. The bike hasnt been driven on the road since about June of last year, I havent touched the clutch at all, it was all running fine prior to when i started dissassembling the bike.

Problem is fixed, seems i hadnt run the bike enough to allow all the new oil to flow through properly and for things to find thier place again. I ran it for a good 15 mins, and its all back to normal now, thanks for the responses.
