I've had some grief with wet-sumping. Took the right side-cover off and noticed the seal was installed with the closed side IN the side-cover. Seemed to me the seal would work better if the open side was in the side-cover, as the oil pressure is on that side. Put it together and ran it. More wet-sumping problems. Pulled the side-cover and noticed the seal had blown out of the side-cover. Hmm. Look in the parts book and they list a circlip to hold the seal in. Look at side-cover, and sure enough, there is a circlip groove, but no circlip. Check the other motors, and no clip, but clip grooves. Hmmm. Order a new seal and circlip using the part #s from the parts book. With the seal seated all the way in the recess, it covers the circlip groove. Hmm. Check the height of the end of the crank and the depth of the seal recess. Not enough crank to seal engagement to cut the seal cavity deeper and still have the crank be in the seal. At a loss here. Anyone have experience/grief/ideas? thanks, -Armen PS This is a heavily breathed on SOS motor-560cc, Megacycle Cam, Carillo Rod, etc.

I've seen a couple like this - there is not enough room for the seal and the circlip however others are ok. I think that you need to scource a cover that you can fit a circlip to or try to find a seal that is narrow enough to fit under the circlip groove. As for the wet sumping you may need to check the gerotor clearance in the oil pump.

Please check my article in "VMX" magazine number 32 due in January, it is a global publication and the third article goes into big detail on this, pump rotor clearance and the pump seals are critical as is the little "check ball" and seal in the clutch cover near the oil filter area, regards,Carl.
