I read elsewhere that several of you have had trouble with gaskets blowing out (base and head) What sort of compression ratio are you running to have this trouble??? The engine i am building has a wiesco 10:1 in it and with the new cam will see a fair few revs. Can i expect gasket problems?

Fenz,
At 10:1 you shoud not have problems with your head gasket, My hot engine is running at just over 12:1 and I am using a normal genuine yamaha head gasket, been in the engine for about 7 years and not a sign of trouble.
Raising the compression ratio should not cause problems with the base gasket. Most of the base gasket leaks that I have encountered have been with 2nd hand engine that I bought. The leaks were normally due to the previous owner either using cheap aftermarket gaskets or not putting a new o-ring on the bottom of the cylinder when the engine was overhauled.

Yes, make sure you use the new style Yamaha metal base gasket or similar, definitely don't use a pattern gasket made of paper. The O ring is a good point, mine was missing and didn't help things, once I fitted a new O ring and metal base gasket, the oil leaks disappeared.
I was racing mine with a Yamaha head gasket using 10:1 piston and it didn't blow, but I have changed to copper just to make sure and also means I can re-build without buying new gaskets every time. Greg's head gasket blew with 12:1 piston, but still not sure of the origins of the head gasket he was using.
