On my way home from work yesterday, I was having trouble getting into neutral. I work in downtown Baltimore City, so I have to stop hundreds of times on my way. I never had trouble going from 1st to 2nd while riding, but often had trouble geting to neutral. This morning was even worse. First, what is the likely culprit? Second, is it too late for maintenance?

Have a crack at your clutch adjuster, with constant usage the clutch plates wear requiring adjustment of the cable, but if thats not the issue, have a squiz at your clutch plates, if your plates are wearing or worn, selecting between gears becomes harder. or they slide past the gear you are trying to selct. hope it helps. If all fails ,ya gears are knackered.

Ugh!!! I swear a friggin boat would be cheaper than this bike. Everytime I get something fixed, something even more expensive breaks. Oh well, I'm probably preacing to the choir.

Yes unfortunately, with older bikes you fix something with a new part that causes more stress to older parts and in the end you replace everything and presto you have a new bike and that bloke who sells you the parts thanks you for his new pool.

Try the oil it may be too thick & the clutch may be grabbing a little because of it ! My Laverda is a mongrel for it I some times just stop it & change it before I start it next time . But that is OK for me coz I only go A-B & B -A . My SR is never a problem (same oil too?) so try clutch adjustment too I'm probably no help so you can do what everybody else does & ignore ?cheers Dave.
