Hi The rebuild is coming on nicely I've been thinking of fitting a oil pressure gauge ,I know these bikes dont have a very high oil pressure but its nice to keep a eye on the little bit they do have . I cant find a pressure gauge thats reads small pressures ,most are rated upto 100 psi + Theres this fuel pressure gauge cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150133849795&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:UK:1Would it work with oil running through it ??might be just the thing I need . Cheers LURCH

Hi, Not sure about your question but I'm sure I've seen some digital ones around somewhere...might be worth a look. Maybe something here? www.trailtech.net/I am still waiting for the Vapour instrument and the mounts...been about 2 and a half months now... SR

Hallo i guess the oilpressure on a sr is about 0.012bar.
@ stew
strange, the last time i ordered the parts were in the secondnext day, be it at severe shippingcosts. never hurts to phone them

That Vapor gizmo's a great piece of kit & reasonably priced but it'll look a bit out of place on my Cafe racer project . I think I'll order the gauge on ebay and try it out it isn't too expensive . I was thinking of putting it on the return oil pipe after the oil cooler ,would this be OK ? Cheers LURCH

Hmmm, not sure you'd be measuring return flow pressure... Sjef, I have ordered the Vapour through an Aus Trailtech dealer...probably a mistake...should have bought it direct. Probably have been cheaper as well... SR

Oops, engaged mouth before brain again ,the return isn't pressurized Where would be a good place to tap into the oil system ? cam shaft oil supply line ? Cheers LURCH

I've been giving this some thought, because I reckon an oil pressure guage would look cool. I have been considering getting a physically very small one, say inch and a half, maybe 40mm diameter, and making up a mounting bracket to fit the top two bolts on the oil filter cover. Then I would use the bleed off screw hole for a nice little stainless fitting to take the oil to the guage, which would sit along side the barrel just above the right hand crankcase. I'd set it up so the guage is practically directly connected to the bleeder hole via an elbow or two, and the whole lot would come off with the oil filter cove when doing oil changes. You are then measuring system pressure as supplied to the filter. A sharp rise in pressure would possibly alert you to a blocked filter, etc. Only objection I can think of is unfilter oil being fed to the guage, but it shouldn't be a real big drama, since there is no actual flow to the guage once it is full of oil, so the oil can't carry too much crap to it. If you used an "olive bolt" type fitting, you could still do the air bleed thing. Hope I've made myself clear. It'd look "right" to me, for a period cafe racer. Mick

Hi guys I have fitted an oil pressure gauge to the top surface of the filter housing by drilling and tapping a small olive type brass fitting and tyhen running nylon pressure pipe to above headlight to a marine pressure gauge that reads to 35 psi , when starting engine the gauge reads full pressure so I am careful to warm up before giving it a handful , when warm and idling reads about 5 psi when cruising at about 80 /100 kph reads 20 psi as engine is all roller bearings this seems about right to me ...T.C.
