Put on a SuperTrapp exhaust and ride really fast. You'll be amazed at the things you don't hear anymore.

I already have that. And and ride like that. how hard is it to change a cam and set of rockers? from the looks of what it takes to get at them, doesn't look very difficult... cam $143 rockers $25-40

I'll let you know what it might be, hopefully within a week.... I got up early this morning to meet friends in the outer suburbs, ready for a nice big Dandenongs/Yarra Ranges ride, but by the time I got to my mate's house at the end of the freeway, I was just feeling too edgy about the loud tapping noise in my engine, so I had to turn around and go home as they all rode off to have fun . I've decided on no big rides until the sound is properly inspected, so it's off to the mechanic's this week. Are your valve clearances good? I'm hoping that's the (simple) problem. I tensioned my cam chain during the week, and the noise became less complicated in sound (leading me to suspect the combination of chain and clearances). How does one determine if the chain is worn and needs replacing (esp on a secind hand bike)?
