The clutch on my SR is VERY heavy, I have changed the cable and springs but it remains heavy any ideas ?

Is the cable routed correctly, so it doesn't bind on anything while riding?
Did you lube the cable when you installed it?
One of the things I like best about mine is the light clutch.

It was well lubed and at the moment is hanging from the bars to the clutch away from its proper place but its still like working out at the gym !! In the Haynes manual it mentions that some models had an extra clutch plate, would this make any difference, mine has 8 plates.

Is it possible that the last owner put in stronger springs? mine has alternating stock and aftermarket springs and is quite heafty...it does allow me to lift the front wheel of the ground after a red light. ;D
