I want to run a tacho on my track bike and intend on tracking down a SR tacho. Now my dilema is that i am running a xt engine. Was there any difference between the two???When you look at aftermarket tachos most of them are to do with the sr and talk about a certain ratio I am thinking that the gear on the cam and the drive in the rocker box would be the same across all the models..... Any ideas?  ? |

Almost 100% sure they are the same. Yamaha tachs all have a 4:1 ratio.

I have been looking for a tacho for a while, without success. I was thinking of getting a tacho and speedo from vanem. Have any of you guys bought any gear from them. Their instruments look pretty good and seem reasonably priced. Would they fit straight on ? On the website they say that the " ratio is 1:5 for sr tacho gear". What does this mean?

Have bought several parts from Vanem, good to do business with.
Daytona parts in general are of very good quality.If Daytona says it is build for the SR than it is bolt on.

Hi, I originally fitted a small 1:4 tach to my SR as I had one lying around as I too figured that the SR's ratio was 1:4...the tacho under-read significantly. Since then I fitted a small Daytona tacho to it marked with a ratio of 1:5 and it reads normally again. You are able to get small instruments and larger ones. It depends what size and face style you are after. SR  |
