Had to stay home from clinic sick today. So, I say, "self, wouldn't you feel better if you took care of your poor neglected SR?". I've commuted on it the last 2 days (~ 130 miles round trip, mostly interstate highway), and it's a little noisy? Time to look at cam chain adjustment and valve clearances. Haven't done it since I bought the bike in August.
The manuals say that the pushrod/adjuster should move just a little bit with the engine running, after adjusting. I can't see any such movement. I tried loosening it way out, and tightening it in quite a bit; but it doesn't look to me like it moves at all.
Help?

Hi,
The end of the pushrod should be level with the end of the adjuster bolt and it should just "pulsate" back and forward when the camchain is adjusted correctly. Could be hard to see, but if you put your finger on the end of the pushrod toy shuold feel a distinct movement / pulsation of the puahrod.

Thanks.
To complicate things, some owner (I'm the third or more in line) crunched the adjuster so I don't think the pushrod can come quite even with it. For now, I've adjusted by sound, but that won't really help much.

Actually, despite not having a better way to verify my adjustment; my bike is starting a little more readily and holding a steady idle at slightly lower engine speed. Maybe I got it right anyway?

Hi, I'd change that adjuster as well...it should move freely. I screw it in until it sits just below the flush position...then I tighten it up. SR
