I just recenty noticed that the SR seems to be blowing a bit of white smoke for a little while after starting.
It seems to disappear after it has been running for a while.
Does this mean that I need to replace the ring or is there something far more sinister up?

blue smoke is oil so i don't think so. white smoke could be water???

Hi, The SR's have a problem with valve stem seal leakage occasionally...the symptoms are as you describe. I wouldn't be concerned with it...monitor your oil usage and when it becomes unacceptable to you, fix it up. I must admit I haven't had the problem in recent years...perhaps they've improved the seals somehow??? In any case it's not hard to fix, but it involves removing the engine and taking off the head...a pain but not real hard. SR  |
