Has anyone here found a good substitute for the factory crank pulling tool for setting the crank and pulling the cases back together? Hate the thought of banging on the cases and screwing up tough truing job on the rebuilt crank shaft.

Checked the Yamaha tool supplier Kent-Moore some time ago. I think they wanted over a hundred dollars for the tool. "Fab" time!

Finally got the crank drawing thingy fabricated... Wasn't sure it would work... Galvanized pipe, 1/4 inch allthread, nuts, washers, angle stock... Tested the Yamabond #4 and found I had about 20-25 minutes before it skinned over... Took 15 to pull cases with my contraption... Time to spare! Now for the head work/valves and guides.

Hallo SRwillie, just a freeze and an oven worked fine for me , even the mallet has not been used, just been putting the cases back by hand (with gloves of course).
best regards sjef

If you have access to a heat gun this will also work.Use the gun to warm the cases around the bearing areas and it will go back together easy. This also works well on disasembly of the cases.

Got the cases back together. Thought about sticking the crank out in the snow! I would never do that, but using the freezer would work. Thanks again, Willie
