Working on the sr"s this weekend. I tried to loosen the down tube strainer on both bikes but was unable to break them loose. Just how tight are they or do they have left hand threads? I was worried that I was going to break something do I stopped. Thanks John

Yeah, I haven't been able to get mine undone either. The strainer bolt's pretty skinny, and my socket moves around on it too much - I was afraid of rounding off the corners. I was thinking of chopping the socket down a bit in height so it sits more snuggly over the strainer - but haven't got around to trying it yet. Rgdz CL

They are a normal thread. I used the box end wrench from the toolkit and a plastic-faced hammer, kept tapping at it until it came. I had to use teflon plumbers tape on reassembly to keep it from leaking, even tho I reassembled with the hammer as well.

Yeah, Correct socket with a big piece of pipe on the toolbar to five some leverage. Lucky the local Auto-Pro were happy to exchange sockets, cause I guessed the size wrong the first time I bought one. Mick

You'll need a 27mm socket.
