Well, following on from the good news of firing my old girl up again, as I mentioned in the thread everyone helped me with - its sounds unhappy.
The motor noise is almost drowning out my exhaust. Anyway long story short, it'll probably need some work done.
Now the motor is at least 70 thou km old, and its been loved, but whether or not it was "tough love" by the previous owner is hard to tell.
What do you think is my best option? I either have to get it rebuilt (don't have time right now) which will have me off the road for a while. OR should I look at sourcing another motor and slotting it in, and have the other done in my own time.
Do Yamaha do crate motors? Some of the wreckers in Sydney have the import bikes they part and those motors are probably younger than mine so maybe thats an option to look at?
Any thoughts, recommendations etc are most appreciated.
I'd like to keep the hotter motor, but really to get out on my bike more, I'll probably have to go with something more sedate. But when I work out a direction, I can discuss specs then.....

Hi, Always handy to have a spare engine in some ways...wonder what the wreckers would charge for the whole engine? There are certainly enough of them around so it might be a reasonable option. You can then do the other motor up at your leisure. SR

Stew, anyon eyou can reccomend in Aus for a basic go-over, if I can't find a suitablie engine? Within NSW/ACT would be handy, but not essential. I've seen places like Hanks engineering etc
Just exploring all the options before I consider pulling her off the road.

Hi, No-one comes to mind I'd really trust...if Karl in Bathurst was still doing stuff he'd be OK...you could try him anyway. He might do it as a bit on the side so to speak. Not sure what he's doing now...I'll see if I can find his mobile number for you. SR

There was another Carl in NSW I read about - Carl Askew - Motorcycle Warehouse - somewhere in Sydney. His website had some photos of a TT500 motor he restored for a customer - looked like a nice job. The link doesn't work anymore though, which isn't a good sign. www.motorcyclesonly.com/restore.htmRing any bells with anyone? Rgdz CL
