I have recently added an '78 sr500 to my motorbike collection ie 2 bikes, the other an '04 sr250 for scooting around Sydney town.
Anyway, the 500 has about 70'000 km on the clock, and down the track I'm thinking re-build, possibly upping the cc's to 600.
Can anyone whose done this give me some advice? Is it worth it in terms of reliability etc, ease of kick starting etc etc
Not desperate for more power, but if I'm going to pull it apart, why not. I have the twin disk front etc which I would probably add over the drum on it now if I go ahead.
I already have a mild cam (unsure of the specs), filter, pie etc etc.
Whadda ya think?

Hi milkman, Sound interesting for sure...to take an SR500 to 600cc's involves stroking the crank as well as the larger bore. There are kits around from various places, Japan, US....some have taken them much further...depends I guess, on the depth of you wallet... SR

you can go till about 700cc, whatever you do , do not forget to strengthen the cylinder if your bore is over 90 mm.and it won`t hurt to do it anyway. easy kicking is also a matter of compression ratio. like stew said how much money do you want to spent. if you want a reliable engine with litlle costs look for the free hp. free your intake and exhaust, carb adjustment. and if the engine runs oke why take it apart, check your oilconsumption.

thanks lads, I've breaths through a better pipe, filter and carb. I'll take that on board for the rebuild, scour the net for the kits.
thanks
