I presently have a simple foam filter at the end of the crankcase breather hose. The hose just juts up loose under the seat. I'm thinking of putting a proper filter like a K&N on the end of the hose. Has someone done this, and how did you then afix the hose and filter so they wouldn't be loose? How much hose do you use for the breather?

Hi, I have the small K&N breather filters on most of the SR's...I use a length of rubber heater hose..about 1 foot or so. The lower end pushes over the crankcase spigot; you then need to get a filter that has a spigot that goes inside the hose. You can get the outside mount type from K&N as well... I guess that you don't have an airbox fitted to your SR? You fit a clamp at either end of the hose and then you can position the filter and hose in a convenient spot and use tie-wraps to hold it in place. I don't know how your bike is set up so it's a little difficult to give you a precise answer. On my black cafe racer I have used aircraft electrical Adel clamps to hold the top hose and filter insitu. The clamp is screwed to the alloy plate under the seat where I have mounted all of the SR's electrics... Hope this is of some assistance to you... SR

I have a k+n filter that fits directly on the crankcase nipple (I hope i can write this word,because i love them,NIPPLE sorry!I can't controll myself sometimes)I will look up the part # for you tomorrow. Looks darn sexxy, no hoses,Bob

Re crankcase breather, on my dirttrack bike i use a piece of clear plastic tube from the crankcase that runs up under the seat and has lawn mower airfilter on the end of the tube.It is zip tied to a frame bracket, and it cost about five bucks australian, and it works. Cheers franky b on a budget.

I used a very small length of 3/4" heater hose so the K&N is sitting just above the case inlet. There's plenty of room there, hopefully it does its job. Medic, i could'nt find my receipt for the filter,so i looked up again. If memory is correct the NIPPLE is 3/4".K+N offers a 1 3/8 dia filter part#62-1560,2"Filter part#62-1360 both w/a chrome tops and a 2" w/rubber top part#ru-3630.I went w/a 2"chrome,looks great,nice clean install.If the NIPPLE size is incorrect let me know, as i did'nt remove mone to remeasure,Bob

forget to mention, any supplyer that is a full line K+N dealer (napa, pep boys, what have you) should be able to order these for you. Bob

A cheap option for Oz riders. I went to the local Autopro shop and bought a Redline brand car engine breather filter. $12.95. Its a bit over 2" in diameter, and about the same high. The filter cloth is red, always sexy I feel, and the end caps are chrome. I measured the crankcase spigot at 19 mm. Unfortunately the closest inside diameter of the rubber spigot on the filter I could get was 15mm. Back to Autopro for 3 inchers of 19mm I.D. heater hose. The conversation went like this: "19mm I.D. heater hose and a couple of clamps please." "How long?" she asked. "3 inches," I said. "What would that be in mm?" she asked. "75 mm," I said. "Roger'" she called to her husband, " How much is 75mm of 19mm heater hose?". "75mm? he cried. " For goodness' sake, woman, give it to him, that's what keeps people coming back!" So, off back home with my free 3 inches of heater hose. tried just sliipping the rubber spigot of the filter inside the heater hose, but was not happy with the security of this arrangement. Tried just forcing the 15mm spigot of the filter over the 19mm spigot of the crancase, but I was not happy with that either. So I went to thrifty link hardware shop, where I located a copper reducing nipple, of the sort that plumbers use to join 15mm copper pipe to 12mm copper pipe. The outside diameters of these nipples are 19mm at one end and 15 mm at the other. $1. Nice tidy set up. Hose over crankcase spigot, fat end of reducing nipple in the other end of the hose, filter on skinny end of reducing nipple. Looks good, works good, total cost less than $20. Mick PS, why go to all this trouble? No-one in town keen to order K&N bits for me. The one down-side of living out side the city.
