Hello learned fellow SR riders - I'm about to remove the flywheel off the on bench engine and was wondering if I'll have to buy the official magneto holding tool or if someone has got an idea on doing without? I've already reasembled the top end and hope I can avoid having to take it apart again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate,
I'd be getting the proper tool. The consequences of possibly damaging the cases is too severe.
The thread inside the flywheel is fairly fine and you should be careful when placing the tool into it. You should also lubricate the thread in the centre of the tool to avoid possibly seizing or galling the thread.
I used to try to 'bodge' the job years ago and I have learnt to get the proper tools in these cases.
