Tominaga,
Hi, I have owned SR's ever since they came out and I still have the first E model that I bought back then. It's now a cafe racer. I love them, great bikes. You can never own enough SR's...
I have a question that you can assist me with.
We don't have any of the newer SR's here in Aus (...well, that I know of anyway...) and I have been intrigued by the line that appears to run from the airbox to the front of the head on the bikes. What is it?
I guess some polution device or similar......then again I've been wrong before...

Hi Stew, Akira's here.
Yes, you are right! The divece you noticed is called Air Induction System (AIS). The AIS brings fresh air from air box to exhaust port to oxydise (i.e. to burn out) unburned gas completely and reduce NOx or something like that.

Akira, Ah, OK thanks for that. I guess they do that to keep the SR's going as the pollution laws tighten up....
Do they still make the SR500 or did they stop when it reached 25 years old?.....
What do the 400's go like in comparison to the 500's?...it'd be nice to bring a couple over here to Australia and put them on the road.
Thanks again.

SR YAMAHA no more make SR500 for 500 had been sold much less than 400 and they couldn't afford to fix for new enviromental acts, i.e. pollution or noise. In Japan, licence for motorcycle are separated at the line of 400cc and for bigger ones, it has been so hard to get a licence. As the result, people tend to prefer 1000cc or 1300cc, not smallest for the licence for "Big moto's". 400... well, not bad, of course.... But I think it's a littele bit powerless and 500 is giving me much fun. If you would like to own SR400, you can ask Orange Boulverd Motor Cycle (mailto:omcomc-1981.co.jp), for the shop master told me today that they welcome any foreign cstomers. Also he told that someone from Australia came OMC yesterday and they talked about trading SR parts.
