What forks are a bolt in for the sr500. I need new forks for my '78 SR500e. The current forks are badly rust pitted. Will XS650 forks interchange?
Thanks! Strick

77+ XS650 legs and sliders are the same part number. You may be able to transfer your old innards, some of which are different but not dramatically so. Progressive uses the same springs for both, with a different spacer.

I know this is a super old thread but I would rather revive then start another one. It keeps information more accessible for future inquiries. ANYWAYS, What are the differences on the 1978 forks compared to the 1984? I have found tons of 1984+ forks on ebay but near nothing that is for the 1978. I just need the leg so I can fit front brakes.

The part number for the outer fork leg remains the same through 1978 for an SR500, 1985 for the SR400 and 1985 for the SR500. If you can find fork outers, you should be good.
