I purchased a side stand from a guy on ebay and realized once I received it that I do not have a side stand bracket to mount it on. do the 1979 models not come with a side stand or has mine just been removed? Also, is there oil through the bottom tube of the frame where the bracket would go? Can i just mount something to that tube and/or drill through it? Any suggestions on the best way to mount it? My center stand is just too cumbersome for quick "errands" around town

Hallo Cordoder,
all the sr have sidestandsbrackets, there is no oil in the lefthanddowntube, the original bracket is a piece of cast steel welded on to the downtube. if you want, can send you a pic

i've seen this pic from the parts manual that I assumed to be it. Unfortunatley, mine has nothing like it on the side of my bike. I can't imagine why someone would have removed it... i would provide pics of my own bike, but unfortunately, my memory stick failed and am waiting delivery of my new one.

That's weird. I can't imagine why someone would cut off the sidestand bracket.

That's weird. I can't imagine why someone would cut off the sidestand bracket. the only reason i could think of would be maybe racing and didn't want it hanging off the side? who knows... Is there anywhere I can find a detailed specification of the bracket and where exactly it fits on the frame? I would like to have one welded on and I need to know exactly what to tell the welder... Thanks for the help.

cordodor AT wsu DOT edu is my address...
Can you also send dimensions of the bracket, where the holes are and the distance from distinguishable marks on the frame so i know where to put it?
that would be a big help. Thank you.

I actually cut off all the unwanted brackets etc off my track bike. Will have a look in the shed over the weekend to see if i still have the side stand bracket.
