G’day every one, just registered today, I have a good mate who has this sweet SR500 cafe racer, thing is, he hates chain drive, with its maintenance, and its messy lube, thing is he wants a belt drive instead, I can see the advantages of having one, maintenance, looks, no slack as with a chain etc, I did a google and couldn’t really find any thing, so here I am, are there any kits or can one be fabricated to fit the SR? My mate and I would really appreciate it. ;D
Thanks

Welcome to the forum thectpn Thats a good question NO more messy chains I'm a big fan of shaft drive myself owning two XJ650's a XS750 & a FJR1300 I haven't seen any SR's with a belt conversion but it should be easy to do if you have access to some engineering machinery Theres a little Kawasaki 305cc twin here in the UK that uses belt drive the pulley wheels should be able to be modified to fit , take a look at this Pic Cheers LURCH PS is that you in the avatar or Ron Jeremy the Porn star ? talk later "Big Boy" heh heh

G'day Lurch, thanks for that info, yep thats the hedgehog! ;D yeah, the only problem with putting on a belt drive is that the swingarm is in the way on his bike and there is no way of breaking a belt like a chain.

Hi cptn It would be just like fitting a endless chain to a bike, you just take the swing arm off ,feed the belt through then put the swing arm back on Easy , I do it all the time on my mates bikes but you woulnt be able to use the standard SR gearbox sprocket cover as there isnt enough clearance for a pulley Cheers LURCH

Chain drive is all that I have ever ridden, so I really can't help with your questions. The thing is, somehow your picture looks really familiar to me. Stranger still, somehow I know what your member looks like. Just can't figure it out.

Wow, that one link to the German company "Motorradtechnik" is interesting. i had no idea that conversions to "belt drive" were so common

Marlon, yep its me the cptn from netrider, got banned huh? they are an odd bunch them mods there, I call em nazirider at times lol, thanks for the links guys, btw my friends SR is actualy the red cafe racer that used to belong to Road Warriors cafe, www.classic-motorcycle-fiberglass.com/yamaha.htm we picked it up 2 weeks ago, so far the carb has been rebuilt, the wiring has been redone and cleaned up, clutch was cleaned up, all is needed is a speedo and tacho unit and she will be rego'd and ready to go! I was lucky enough to ride it up the street, man the bike is light as a feather and goes nuts, ill post some pics once we get her repainted candy apple red, yum! if I get lucky and score my self an SR, ill be building a similar setup to my friends one, ill keep you guys posted.

That was one of the nicenet looking SR's I had seen on the web. Then one day I road to Road Warriors, and it was sitting dismally as a sad post for a sign.
Good to see its out there again....
