Hey All!
I went on a great day-long ride up to Wollombi back, at a medium pace, through Wisemans and all the way up to the pub, where the God squad were having a meeting.
It was interesting to see the shift away from Harleys amongst the clubhouse. 1 in five of the cruisers there were triumphs - Americas, Speedmasters and Rocket III's. Good to see a bit of diversity amongst the 10%ers!
Anyway, it was a lovely ride nice, but nippy weather, some great twisties running along the river but the road was very badly paved and maintained. It was there I experienced... TANK SLAP[/b]
By far the scariest thing I've ever gone through. The bike went from lock to lock several times in the space of a few seconds. I had virtually no control over the bike but kept it upright.
Is there a steering damper available that would prevent this from happening? It really shot my confidence for the return trip.
I'm getting paid monthly now, so I can afford to splurge a little bit. I had planned a new bucket, but I've got to get this problem solved first. I don't want to have to use the helmet!
Aside from that, my humble SR managed to get away from a 600 Hornet in the twisties, with a rider of similar experience. But she (That's right!) nailed me down the straights. d**n!

Ah grasshopper, you are beginning to ride the SR a little harder. Yes the SR can bite you as you are now aware. It can really hurt your thumbs as the clip-ons are ripped from your grip. Heh, heh...luckily enough with the reduced lock that clip-ons require it's not as bad 'cause it tank slaps over a shorter arc. Gets your attention! There are some available...try Vanem or Deus. I know that Adrian was getting a kit in soon. They aren't hard to fit in any case. You could buy an aftermarket damper and sort out some mounts for it fairly easily. Can't recall if the SR has a mount under the lower triple clamp I'll have a look later. SR

Marlon,
I run the old style universal (adjustable) hydraulic seering dampers on two of my SR's. both required a hole to be drilled into the lower triple clamp and I welded a bracket onto the frame down tube, however you could get by with making up a clamp to told the damper onto the frame.
