With the dramatic increase in gas prices, I was thinking that we may see a big resurgence in motorcycles again. I remember in the 70's, the roads were thick with bikes. It would really be great if Yamaha decided to re-introduce the SR. If they did, I'd like to see it as 600-650 cc's, belt drive, kick start only, and keeping it's same classic looks. I'd latch on to one immediately (I'd also keep my current one . I know this is wishful thinking but what say you, my fellow SR brothers/sisters? Bronson7

I could see them perhaps bringing these back in Japan but in Europe and especially the USA I doubt that they will find a market in the immediate future.
If anything, I think the current future in Europe for lightweight singles (if there is one) will be softer "replica" versions of super-motards and SX bikes and, in some markets, the 400-600 cc scooters.
In the USA, we're going to be left out in the cold again. The riders who start off on hyper-sports and heavy cruisers aren't likely to gravitate to smaller bikes (I did only after having some sense kicked into me) and the cagers will go for electric-hybrids which give great comfort and safety with nearly the same fuel economy.
Oh well.

Sense?
M'eh, you're talking about the guy who spent a good part of 2003 checking out all of the FZR400's in the vicinity in hopes of finding one in good condition and not listed over the original MSRP. Ha.
I wish there was more in the smaller and lighter class these days. I was planning on maybe finding an older DRZ and then doing the supermoto thing with it but it's a pricier option than the SR500.
Plus the SR500 has the option of dressing it up real purty later on down the line and I'll be able to afford a dedicated dirt-only bike to boot.
What I really want is an option to my Moto Guzzi which is a solid and stable bike but heavy. Just looking for affordable variety is all.
