Hi I've been mucking around making mounting plates for the Tarrozi rear sets that i bought on Ebay ,Now I have a problem , the kick start hits the brake pedal .Is there a bike that has a cranked/swan-neck kick start that is a strait swap or a aftermarket item available ? I spotted this pic ,the kick start is just what I need but where do I buy it from ? and how much £$£$£$£$£$£$ Oops , the bike behind has a Dues logo on the tank but I cant open some of there web pages & I cant find a kickstart on Vanems site either. Is there a supplier a little closer to home here in the UK ? Thanks guys LURCH

Hi, That kickstart is made by Wellington in Japan...I have one on my black CR now but they aren't cheap...perhaps Vanem or Deus could assist. They go onto the standard clamp from the original kickstart... If you can get hold of one from a YZ465 or similar they are long enough for you to heat and bend to shape and still work reasonably well. I had modified a standard one that I used for years but it is pretty short and could be frustrating...see the pic of my black cafe racer on this site...in pics to see what I mean...it did work...but... HI,
You can modify a STD kickstart lever with the aid of a oxy torch so it will clear rearset controls. If you have a look in the post "QDR500 racer" the kickstar lever on the bike in the picture is one I modified in 1980 when I first fitted a set of Tingate rearsets onto my SR. The kickstart has lasted 27 years without breaking or bending, however it does not give as much leverage as a STD lever and makes it a bit harder to start, especially with a high tuned engine.

try sending Vanem an email, they have a lot of good bits and pieces and are very good to deal with. They have trouble with transitioning from their Japanese website to the Australian one, so thats why a lot things dont appear, but I recommend them.
I think thats Marlons bike, before his pipe melted?

Heyhey! Someone's been looking at my bike.
Typical. The guys here know more about the parts then me. I bought and installed the bloody things and I've got no idea where they're made! Milkman, you're right, that's before my pipe melted. Still see lots of lovely doc martin marks on that one!

Marlon Nice bike mate was the front mudguard also bought from Deus/Vanem ? BTW whats the reason for wrapping the header in a bandage ?

Hi, Sjef has provided the Wm link...you can buy their kickstart separately...but as I said they aren't real cheap...a whole lot better than a bent standard kickstart though...especially if you've a high comp piston as I have in the black CR. See my bent standard one here: pub42.bravenet.com/photocenter/album.php?img=75220&usernum=3567106928Try an '80 - '81 YZ 465....the kickstart is longer and it can be shortened in length during the bending and still be a better length than the standard SR one. The YZ ones are coated in black (...not sure if it's paint) so that you either then chrome or paint them depending on your preference. SR
