Hi mate, Try one from an XS750 triple or an XS1100, 1.1 etc. They'll be around the wreckers and they look almost exactly like the SR one but with a taller reservoir. SR

Have you considered going for a single high carbon disc?
Keep the single disc set up, but use some modern compond brake pads and a high carbon disc, OK so they go rusty, but you get more braking power then you can use on an SR, without all the extra weight of twin discs etc.
Plus The XS750 master clyinders tend to go for a lot of money as they fit the XS 650 twin disc mod as well.
I'm looking in to this set up for my SR.

Hi, I tend to agree with Aero...I'm fitting a single 330mm disc with an R6, 4 piston caliper to my new cafe racer...I agree with keeping the unsprung weight down as much as possible, and it also helps to promote nice light steering as well and easier direction changes. Although the twin SR discs greatly improve the strength of the SR's brakes, ( I have had this setup on SR's in the past...) I also feel it assists with promoting a degree of tank slap as well. Nothing a steering damper shouldn't fix though... SR

Hi,
I agree with Stew, A good single disc / 4 piston caliper offers as much stopping power as you could ever want on a SR. My daily ride SR and Cafe race are both fitted with XJ1200 discs and 4 piston calipers, which were picked up a wreckers for a reaonable price. I am still using the std SR mastercylinder on both bikes and can lock the front wheel if I am heavy handed on the brakes. There is a bit more work involved in fitting the XJ floating disc which requires a spacer and the 4 piston caliper which needs a mounting bracked made, but it is worth the effort.

So what everyone fitting then?
I'm looking for somthing modern and lightweight to go on the front of my 78 SR, without too much hardship getting it all to fit and work nicely.

I've got the twin XS650 setup on my bike . Its the first thing coming off when winter gets here . I dont rate it at all ! It was setup by the previous owner . I've been looking at bolting a CBR250RR setup on mine it looks like eveything may just bolt straight on ( I haven't actually done a full survey yet ) Its only single disk but I recon thats all you need cheers from Dave .

Hi Guys, As mentioned above, I currently run a XJ1200 floating dosc and 4 piston caliper on two of my SR's, as pictured below. This disc and caliper were fitted to a whole range of Yamaha models through the 90's and early 00's. The disc requires a spacer to be made to move it out from the wheel and is on the RH side due to the difficulty in making a spacer that will fit around the speedo drive on the LH side of the wheel. There have been some previous posts fitting this type of brake, I have some drawings somewhere at home from when I made up the disc spacer and caliper bracket. If anyone is interested I will see if I can find them and post them here. CJ

Like your work Col ! I checked out your drawings on the other thread . I take it the material is 6mm ali plate ? I won't be using the CBR gear as I've had the bike going & I'll probably make more dollars selling it complete so I'll do your style of conversion as it looks to be prooven , cheers Dave .
