Eventually I want to replace the stock front fender with something smaller that I can paint black. Painting over the stock fender is out of question as the chrome is perfect and I'd like to have the option of putting it back on.
Does anyone know where I could find a fiberglass front fender? Also, what other bike's have fenders I could bolt on with minimal modification?
Thanks,
Cameron

Hi, There are a variety of fibreglass and metal guards available for the SR from Japanese companies such as Daytona etc. In Aus you can get these from Vanem or Deus: www.vanem.com.au/parts.htmwww.deusexmachina.com.au Those guards just bolt straight on. There are also a selection of fibreglass cafe racer type guards that you could get from several places around the World here in Aus and in the US. Perhaps try Airtech in the US for a start. On my black cafe racer I have fitted a guard from an RD250/350LC Yammie and it went on with minimal modification. Have a look on: sr500forum.bravehost.com/cafeproject.htmlGood luck and have fun. SR

Hello A 1982ish Yamaha Seca 550, 650, 750 (inline 4 not turbo) apparently is a direct bolt on. They are plastic, and finding one with out any cracks or breaks can sometimes be difficult. There out there and fetch around $30.00. Being plastic you can paint them quite easily.

I've got such an item in perfect condition , I took it off my bike when I returned it to stock . I dont know what it came off but its plastic with very strong looking metal brackets . The only catch is I live in Western Australia (in the south west too) . Its not a heavy item but would still cost $30AUS to post & I'd want $40AUS for it ! let me know ? Cheers Dave

Thanks for the offer Dave, but I'm not looking to spend that much. I think I'm going to hit up the junk yards and see what I can find.
Thanks,
Cameron

Bob I'd like to but all my attempts to do the picture thing has been dismal failures . I know I'm doing something wrong .I'm one of these computer illiterate people who needs somebody looking over my shoulder telling me where to click other wise it just doesn't gell for me . I've got Fuji finepix 5500 SLR type camera every time I try to post to this site I just loose the lot . So if anyone can help send me a personal or email me ,I've got to be able to crack it sooner or later ? Cameron no worries mate the fender is in the leftovers from past projects . I think I need a bigger shed though I mean the stuff can't just be tossed out now can it ? Dave .

I think I need a bigger shed though I mean the stuff can't just be tossed out now can it ? Dave . O.K. Dave, let's sort this out. The easiest way to post a link to a pic is by having your pic hosted in a remote photo album such as tinypic (http://tinypic.com/). So, go there(see link in brackets). Click on the browse button. It will open a link to your computer. If it doesn't go directly to your "my pictures" folder, make your way there. Click on the picture in your "my pictures" folder and then click the button to "upload" to tinypic.com. Once the upload is complete, there are three url's you can chooose from on tinypic. Copy the bottom one which will be just a plain url address. Then, come back to the SR500 Forum. Start a message. Look above the message box you type in and right above the smilies there are some little boxes. Click the one with the little globe in it. In your message two url tags will have appeared like this, but without the put your url here: ( PUT YOUR URL HERE). You need to click in between the brackets so your curser is sitting there. Then paste the link you got at tinypic.com. (the url address of the pic supplied by tinypic after you uploaded it to their server) right where I have typed "PUT YOUR URL HERE". The above is for posting a link to your picture for us to view. If you wish to actually put the picture in the body of your message, you will do exactly as above, except instead of the url button, you will click on the box with the little picture in it. The [/img] tags will appear. Place your url in between the img tags and your pic should appear in the body of your message when you post your reply. If you still can't make it work, or have more questions, just let me know. Hope this helps. G Man

Cameron,
The front fender from the late 70's XJ650 is a steel fender and a straight bolt on. If you want to see what it looks like, I have one fitted to my cafe' racer, pictured in the post "20 Years of Evolution". It was designed for use with a 19" wheel, but still looks ok with a 18" wheel. You can still pick them up from wreckers if you are lucky.
