They are sort of common on other bikes of the period. They look about the same as the front pads, but have different letters after the number on the aftermarket ones. Certainly very available. I'd offer to ship you some, but we are far apart. Someone there can get 'em for you. Maybe ring up another supplier.

Hi, What about EBC or similar aftermarket ones? The '70's Yam 2 strokes probably have similar pad too... SR

Hi. Encountered the same problem. www.kedo.com suggested I ordered the pads as the front. Did so, and they have arrived today. Will post tonight when I have checked if they fit, and with part number. ...hope they fit.... Christer

I got front and rear for my E from THumperstuff, they were the same. Also the same as XS650 front.

Hi guys,
From my SR500E parts manual, the genuine yamaha part numbers are;
Front pads: 1L9-W0045-00
Rear Pads: 2J2-W0046-01
From these part numbers the front and rear pads are different, however it is most likely that the difference is in the compound of the friction material, as they have the same physical appearance/size.
The model prefixes for the part numbers also indicate that the front pads were originally used on another model (1L9 what ever that is) where the rear pads were first used on the 1978 SR500E (2J2).
As for other models, you will find that many of the 1978 yamaha range ran the same front calipers. When I put double discs on my first '78 SR back in 1980, I used a '78 model XS400 caliper on the R/H side as it is the mirror image of the L/H mounting SR caliper.

Maybe the difference is pad material intended to keep the back brake from being so dang strong. I'm scared to use it.
