Does anyone have part numbers for the taper roller bearing conversion for the 500 head stem.
Also drawings of the spacers you have to machine would be handy.
Thought i saw i thread on this once but cant seem to find it now.

Hi, Most of these bearing kits are made here for Linko...there are a couple of others as well. There are no spacers, just the outer race and the bearings. A simple fit and well worth the effort. The bike will feel like a new one in the steering. One thing to look at is to file or similar a relief in the surface where the outer race buts against. This allows for easy removal when they're worn...otherwise it can be difficult! SR  |

There are two taper roller bearings in all the parts that i scored on the weekend that appear
to be the right size for the head stem shaft,but they did not have cones with them.
So if i track down two cones the right size for the frame i should be sweet.

Hi, Ah that's where the problems can start...often these outers are not a standard bearing size and the manufacturers of the kits actually grind the race to suit the application. I can't recall if the SR races are a non-standard size or not...perhaps someone else could assist here... SR  |

I have tried to find the SR bearings in standard bearing catalogs at my work place. Like Stew says, they are non standard. Other folks on the Thumper Forum have tried over the years with the same results.

I have the All Balls on my '79. They are nice! I repacked the steering head bearings on my '78 with new bearings and good races, but it's still no comparison the the tapered rollers. May eventually switch out the ones on the '78 to 'em.
