I've been kicking wheel ideas around and I was wondering what I'd have to do to get a set of 17 inch Excel wheels on my bike? Are the right spacers available?

How about having Excel rims of your choice laced to SR hubs, if you can locate a set of wire type SR wheels. They are a straight swap for the cast items. Wheels come up quite often on ebay and not too expensive.

XS650 front hub and XT500 rear are direct bolt ons to the SR (no spacers other than those already used on both front and rear stock SR assemblies) and will lace to Excel rims no problem. Use a 1980-81 (US) swingarm, or swingarm from rear drum brake SR model and you've got it nailed. There's no direct replacement for a rear laced wheel with disc brake that I've found in some pretty relentless looking, although an older WR hub might work. Gary Hopwheels

Thanks for the reply's guys.
I'm going to look into this a little deeper, and I'll come back with some info. I dont think making spacers would be too hard. There are some good deals on complete wheel sets and the hubs they use look trick. From what I have read they are a universal wheel for the most part- I'd just have to get spacers for the right application. Only prob is that they are meant for motard conversions on dirtbikes.

Hi, You should be able to make them fit...check the hub width. The rear won't have a cush drive which makes the bike clunk quite solidly when you put it into gear...I have a couple of SR's set up this way... Axle size might also be an issue...check it out. You can possibly get bearings to suit the new ID if the axles are smaller. I fitted one to the front of my new cafe racer...eventually sourced suitable bearings from an SP1...large 22mm axle... I can give you some info there if it needs to be done. I actually have written something on here about that anyway, so look for that. Disc offset may also be an issue, you'll need to assess that as well...nothing is impossible!...just takes a little longer! SR

Thanks Stew- I did a quick search and not much came up. I'll look a little harder. There's more research to do on this one.

last of the aircooled yamaha 250's G model i think,(electronic ignition too) wire wheels with rear disc brake will fit into SR,you need to space the sprocket outboard to line up chain,(actually use a smaller sprocket with teeth turned off for the spacer),state side they may have been called Daytonas?,hth?,
