Does anyone know if the steering head rake angle is different between the SR&XT. Starting a new racer project and would prefer a steeper rake angle,i have seen a frame that was built for a dirt bike and this had been de-raked by several degrees. Any one be down this road before???

I modified the rake angle on the first SR I owned back in'84 by T-boning a car which was performing a U-turn around a blind bend. I rebuilt the bike and had the chassis checked in a jig. The shop that did it said the frame was fine apart from the new steering head angle. They also said they wouldn't be able to rectify it as it was an oil bearing frame!? I was young back then , and in retrospect I think they were fobbing me off. Anyway, the point is, I never felt confident on the bike after that. I have no idea by how much it was altered, but the handling became twitchy to say the least. After about a year I offloaded it to a local backstreet dealer who took it for a test ride and bought it on the spot! Ken

There was quite a discussion about the sr/xt frames on another forum. Do a search @ Thumper Page.
