In the process of giving my 78 SR a new lease of life in the suspension department.Looking at ordering new fork springs and playing with oils in the front and still searching for a decent set of shocks for the rear with out spending silly dollars. Anyone got any susgestions?? Got to get it handling better my spine gets shorter every time i ride.

I've seen some cheap chinese Hagon-type shocks on ebay. I snagged a pair for $40, but the eyes are the wrong diameter, so they are going to need the bushings from the stock shocks. The parts supplier may have had the right size. It seems simple enough to handle myself, and I don't like retunng stuff on ebay.

G'day fenz I've just had a set of front forks rebuilt with Ikon springs and Race Tech Gold Valve emulators - and they feel great on the bike - the front end's really stiffened up. The spacers at the top of the forks are standard, as well as the oil - SAE 10. The beauty with Gold Valves is they do a pretty good job of improving the feel / response of the standard forks. Of course, there's probably even better things you can do, like swapping in more modern TZ forks or the like - just surf the forum for ideas! Gold Valves are AUD$250 a pair, and Ikon springs AUD$150 a pair. For the rear, Ikons are popular, ~AUD$400 a pair. A couple of other options: - YSS shocks, made in Thailand. A couple of club members have raced using these shocks. Contact Greg at ASR Performance M/C's, Dromana, VIC. AUD$
- Hagon shocks, made in the UK. Contact Darrell at Moose Racing, Euroa, VIC. Standard shocks AUD$299, or adjustable AUD$450 per pair.
Good luck - let us know what you end up with! Rgdz CL

I'm racing with the Ikon fork springs, Racetech Gold Valve emulators and Ikon shocks, similar to LemonCT, but there may be small differences in specifications.
Ikon do 2 different fork springs, mine are longer than standard and I have no preload spacers at all. I am running 10W oil but considering 15W oil as the front is pattering a bit on bumpy corners.
Rear shocks are made to my specification, but basically longer than stock to jack the rear end up a bit and also a heavier spring. For road use, I'd stick to a lower rate spring.
Considering this is a really cheap setup, I'm amazed how good it is for racing and have no doubt it will work well for the road as long as you get the correct rate springs for the road.
Good luck in your search!
