I use my bike as an almost daily ride. I need to carry a few books, a laptop, etc. I find strapping a bag to the back of the seat annoying, as I lose space to stretch back. The wife thinks saddle bags are the solution (she'll be using the bike from time to time). I was thinking about a luggage rack. Anyone use a rack, and have a recommendation? When I asked at the Yamaha dealer, they couldn't tell me what rack might work. Thanks!

Medic
The european SR's must have had a rack as an option or standard as they often come up on ebay over there.

Mine came with a rack and backrest combo - must have been bought by my Pop at the Dealer as an add on. I never use it

I see that Thumperstuff lists a rack. Unless I find something a) cheaper, and/or b) more suitable, I may go with it.
Tradrocket, do you by any chance know the company that made your rack?

Thanks for the tip! It was a little more metal than I wanted, so I'm still looking. I'll give it another week maybe, before I buy something from Thumperstuff. Had to buy a new chain yesterday, so that took up some of what's called in my house the "motorcycle money".

medic - I cant find a bit of print on the luggage rack to tell where it camre from, but Pop told me it was never intended for the SR, but it fits like a glove - no spacers or anything. Of course it's in his basement cause I don't want it and he said if you want it offer a fair price and pay for shipping - it's yours. This thing is in perfect shape and matches the origional seat, but my parents are in the dark ages still - no digital camera to take a pic for ya. If you're really interested in it I can figure some way to let you see it. It is only a rack and a backrest with some support bars that mount to the bike on the fender struts and under the seat - no luggage rack.

Hey Trad!
Thanks! Sounds like it could be a good idea, but I'm a bit confused...what do you mean it's a rack, but no luggage rack?
I'm looking for something to carry by dufflebag off the seat, so I can have little more wiggle room. A backrest might be nice, but it's secondary.
Is a picture too difficult? You can email directly if you like - myscher@comcast.net . Or I'll keep checking here, as usual.
I'm going on duty at midnight, but I'll check email pretty soon. What's your excuse for being on the internet at this crazy hour?
Thanks again!

I meant no saddle bag guides - just a backrest and a rack off the back as for pics - it might take a day - let me work it out

Chr.,
Thanks, a photo would be great. You can send it to myscher@comcast.net.
How would I get this? Can you mail/ship it? Of course, I would pay the cost.
Thanks again!
