So my new mirror (R) started drooping on the interstate ride home. Bought it at the dealer. Wasn't expensive (common aftermarket brand recommended by the parts person). So I was too annoyed to return it for all the hassle. I positioned the mirror as I wanted it, and then applied silicone sealer/adhesive around the gap in the joint where the mirror meets the stem (the part that droops). I worked it in with a matchstick and let sit overnight. Lo and behold, during a short interstate ride today (~40 miles roundtrip) the mirror was pretty stable. It dropped just a little. There was even a small amount of adjustment possible. Tonight I applied a little more silicone adhesive to firm it up. I'd say in a pinch, when you can't get another mirror soon, it's worth a try.
